Most
of the functionality works without any extra software installation. I tested it
reading DVDs, CDs. It burned a disc on both the Mac and Windows OS with their
onboard burning software with no problems.
For me, the drive was very quiet at all times. It was super quiet and only vibrated a little during an initial read. I did find that I own a Macbook Air 11, and while I have loved it for the last 4 years, I have wished it had a CD drive to install some software I have. I'm so happy that I finally settled on the VicTsing External DVD/CD Player Drive Combo. It works absolutely seamlessly with my computer. All I had to do was basically take it out of the box, plug the power cord into the back of the drive and the other end of the cord into my computer's USB port and it was ready to go. The computer automatically detects the external drive.

It was that easy. I can now
listen to my CD's, watch movies on DVD or Blu Ray, or access files burned to
DVD for safekeeping. Since you can get all of the technical details in the
product description here on Amazon, I won't go into them in this review, but I
will say it has the ability to do everything I was looking for. The color
matches my laptop perfectly and it works just like any standard DVD/CD player.
The data transfer from the drive to the computer is perfect - you'd never know
it was not a built in unit if you weren't looking at it. It is very lightweight
and can easily be taken with you in your laptop bag or tucked into a desk
drawer for storage until needed. I also thought the price point for this drive
was really good considering the high quality of the unit itself. I could easily
recommend this to anyone looking for a quality upgrade to go with their
computer to increase it's usefulness..
Pros: Able to use with different
operating systems. Light weight. Slim. Easy to pack to travel. Quiet.
Cons: None that I have found.
